Commercial & Residential Rebates for Water Quality Improvements

Environmental Incentives, a local environmental consulting company, is supporting the County of San Diego to test new rebates and incentives to improve local water quality in the unincorporated area of the County. They’re interested in working with residential and commercial property owners or decision-makers to implement a select number of these rebates in the next two to four months. By participating in the program, you have an opportunity to cover costs of your existing projects or discover new projects you can complete with rebates, while providing valuable feedback to the County’s team as they develop a new program for public roll-out next year.

These are the landscape improvements they are currently providing rebates for. These rebates typically cover between 50% – 100% of average costs.

  • Downspout Flow Improvements – The program is offering an average of $100 and up to $500 to help homeowners direct rainwater from their roofs away from the storm drain system and into new or existing landscaping.
  • Replace Grass in Buffer Strips with Sustainable Landscaping – The program is offering $4-6/sq foot to replace grass at the edge of pavement with 3-5 foot buffer strips that can prevent runoff and reduce water waste.
  • Install Sustainable landscaping on Commercial properties – The program is offering $4-6/sq foot to replace grass in commercial parking lot planters and islands.
  • Install permeable pavement on commercial properties – The program is offering approximately $11-12/sq foot for installation of permeable pavement in parking lots.

There are a limited number of rebates available for this pilot phase. Please visit the Water Quality Incentives Program pages below to learn more and fill out a short form for more information!
