COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

20 Hours Per Week (Part-time)

$20-25 / hour commensurate with experience

The  San  Diego  Green  Building  Council  (Council)  is  a  community  benefit  non-profit. SDGBC originated  as  a  chapter  of  the  US  Green  Building  Council  but  has  assertively developed its own presence and leadership in the San Diego region, while remaining an aligned community with the US Green Building Council. We  also maintain relationships with  other  international  bodies  representing  the  diverse  array  of  sustainability  and health/wellbeing frameworks in the market today.

JOB DESCRIPTION

COMMUNICATIONS (+/- 7 hours per week)

Manage aspects of outreach and communication, which include:

  • Marketing: Manage marketing and brand components, generate graphics, and messaging.
  • Manage social media platforms with assistance from staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure regular and timely updates on Social Media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Weekly E-Blast: Work with staff and volunteers to develop and deliver 3-4 monthly emails to all contacts with highlights of upcoming events via NationBuilder.
  • Monthly Newsletter: Develop and deliver monthly graphic-rich newsletter to contacts via website platform.
  • Define and execute marketing strategies for marquee events and major programs in print and news media channels.
  • Response to regular customer service inquiries
  • Track key performance indicators and develop measures to improve engagement and to refine content development.

CONTENT DEVELOPMENT (+/- 7 hours per week)

Support creative development of email, social media and website content. Develop, solicit, edit, and compose content (including but not limited to):

  • 1x Sponsor Profile per month (to be archived on website as well)
  • Calendar of events for the coming month
  • Highlight recent Certified local projects (LEED, ILFI, WELL, etc.)
  • Summary of media articles (SDBJ, U-T, Daily Transcript, etc.) on green building for the past month
  • Articles of interest from partner organizations
  • Summary of past marquee events
  • Include information from USGBC National, ILFI and other rating system partners on news, updates and other developments of the rating systems
  • Include information and events from partner organizations in San Diego and across the state
  • Support development of graphics for upcoming events

WEBSITE MANAGEMENT (+/- 6 hours per week)

  • Regularly updating website through NationBuilder to reflect current messaging, dates, and functionality, including:
    • Keep web pages up to date
    • Create events on the website calendar
    • Create new pages for upcoming programs and committees
    • Post blogs and other content created during above Content Development activities
  • Identifying problems uncovered by customer feedback and testing, and correcting or referring problems to appropriate personnel for correction.
  • Track key performance indicators and develop measures to improve engagement and to refine content development.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Must have strong organizational and project management skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as outstanding copywriting and proofreading skills
  • Firm grasp on various marketing platforms, channels, and best practices, including social, digital, and email marketing
  • Must be a self-starter and able to independently move projects forward, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Must have strong analytical skills to analyze metrics and create reports
  • Must have a high level of creativity

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field and 1-3 years of experience in marketing or related experience OR 5 years experience in marketing or related experience
  • Proven working experience in digital marketing, particularly within the industry
  • Demonstrable experience managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns
  • Experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate
  • Solid knowledge of website and marketing analytics tools
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications and website content management systems
  • Knowledge of sustainability and green building practices is preferred
  • Knowledge or experience with html or website programming is preferred
