Calina Ferraro

Principal/Mechanical Engineer, Integral Group

I want to give back to my community and help propel it forward. I go to work everyday with the goal of saving the world and making it a better place one project at a time. But one person can only do so much. The SDGBC is the primary network and organizing body for the green building community in San Diego. By working with the SDGBC at the Board level, I hope to “scale-jump” my efforts, so that collectively we can work together to save the world and make it a better place one industry and one city at a time.

Susan Freed

Project Manager, County of San Diego

I have been an advocate for the environment since my teenage years and my professional life reflects that commitment. Currently, I am working full time to reduce the effects of my organization's operations on the environment, and I am focused almost exclusively on greenhouse gas. But it has become apparent that the message needs to be delivered, not just through important acts but also with the power of communication, to as many people as possible in the short time we have left to make significant progress. I can no longer be just an individual advocate.

I am passionate about transforming the building and construction industry to reduce or eliminate our impact on the environment. I feel that the best way to do this is to work locally within our San Diego communities. Some specific goals that I have are:

- To help grow the SD Women in Green committee and provide additional education and mentor-ship opportunities for women in the industry.

- Continue to expand media and promotion of SDGBC on the local level

- Potentially add a committee for support of the goals of International WELL Building Institute

- Increase outreach to local schools to expand sustainability education for our youth.

Justin Peterson

Principal, Mechanical Engineer, Peterson Engineering, Inc.

I'd like to be a board member of the San Diego Green Building Council for several reasons. The first is that my personal and company's mission is to help building owners foster sustainability and I'd like to expand that mission beyond my personal and business ventures into the community. The second reason is to build relationships with like-minded people and work together to make a greater difference in the San Diego community than what I can do on my own. The third reason is offer my expertise in engineering and sustainable design to this organization to help it achieve its goals.
