Why do you wish to join the Board of Directors of the San Diego Green Building Council?
Architect + Building Scientist, Studio Verde
To assist the organization in increasing the number of green buildings, educate the community about Sustainable implementation practices, champion policy changes, and make deep and profound impact regarding Sustainability in the built environment for the San Diego region.
Program Manager, UL (Healthy Buildings)
Having been involved with SDGBC since 2010, I would like to continue my involvement with the San Diego Green Building Council as a volunteer board of director. I am committed to our mission and pushing the San Diego region to new levels of sustainability and performance in the built environment.
M&V Project Manager, Brummitt Energy
I'd like to continue to serve on the board and help SDGBC make even more of an impact.
Senior Engineer, SDG&E
The built environment is a huge part of society’s energy use and our future is dependent on making that energy use as efficient as possible. Being a part of the SDGBC Board is my way of contributing to the local community and improving it for all of us who live and work here.
Principal Architect, ECOhouse Architecture
Aspiration and passion for promoting a sustainable built environment, align directly with the mission and goals of SDGBC. As principal architect, responsibility to produce development projects corresponding to the objectives of the community and to achieve positive benefits for occupants, developers, and society is at the forefront of our professional practice. Working on a Masters in Sustainable Business for programmatic cohesion with our firm's mission to promote a greener tomorrow today. Sustaining my position as a board member will enhance professional growth and expand contribution to a sustainable present and future.
NSS - Network Systems Specialist, Graybar Electric
This is my 2nd attempt at self nomination. Sustainability in the community and green building in the built environment are important. I want to engage, impact, and contribute to the green & sustainable community.
Principal/Mechanical Engineer, Integral Group
I want to give back to my community and help propel it forward. I go to work everyday with the goal of saving the world and making it a better place one project at a time. But one person can only do so much. The SDGBC is the primary network and organizing body for the green building community in San Diego. By working with the SDGBC at the Board level, I hope to “scale-jump” my efforts, so that collectively we can work together to save the world and make it a better place one industry and one city at a time.
Project Manager, County of San Diego
I have been an advocate for the environment since my teenage years and my professional life reflects that commitment. Currently, I am working full time to reduce the effects of my organization's operations on the environment, and I am focused almost exclusively on greenhouse gas. But it has become apparent that the message needs to be delivered, not just through important acts but also with the power of communication, to as many people as possible in the short time we have left to make significant progress. I can no longer be just an individual advocate.
Technical Training Specialist, Qualcomm
As a current Board member with SDGBC and an active chapter volunteer for the past 9 years, I have watched the organization grow to become the dynamic and forward-thinking nonprofit it is today. I would like to continue serving on the Board with other leaders in the community who are as passionate as I am about creating change, engaging in important conversations, and driving education about green building to make a difference for our community and beyond.
Architect, L7 Studio Architects
My attendance at events hosted by the San Diego USGBC has increased as I’ve found them to be more and more inspiring each year. As the goals for sustainability keeps growing, I would like to share my experience and talents and to become more actively involved while continuing to learn and being part of the local sustainable building community.
Project Manager, DPR Construction
I am passionate about transforming the building and construction industry to reduce or eliminate our impact on the environment. I feel that the best way to do this is to work locally within our San Diego communities. Some specific goals that I have are:
- To help grow the SD Women in Green committee and provide additional education and mentor-ship opportunities for women in the industry.
- Continue to expand media and promotion of SDGBC on the local level
- Potentially add a committee for support of the goals of International WELL Building Institute
- Increase outreach to local schools to expand sustainability education for our youth.
Senior Associate, Senior Sustainability Design Specialist, Syska Hennessy Group
I recently relocated from Syska's NYC headquarter to the San Diego office. I have been actively involved in Urban Green Building Council events when I was in New York. I have been members of USGBC and worked in building sustainability for almost 10 years. I wish to join the board to be more involved with the local SDGBC organization, develop the network with the local professionals and contribute to the local green society.
Head of Department, DNV GL
I strongly believe in the mission, vision of the San Diego Green Building Council. Never before in its history had SDGBC been on the verge of so much opportunity and I believe that I would be a valuable contributor to the board.
Principal, Mechanical Engineer, Peterson Engineering, Inc.
I'd like to be a board member of the San Diego Green Building Council for several reasons. The first is that my personal and company's mission is to help building owners foster sustainability and I'd like to expand that mission beyond my personal and business ventures into the community. The second reason is to build relationships with like-minded people and work together to make a greater difference in the San Diego community than what I can do on my own. The third reason is offer my expertise in engineering and sustainable design to this organization to help it achieve its goals.
I am interested in remaining involved with the SDGBC board to continue influencing San Diego through advocacy, education and research. I want to promote collaborations and alliances with like-minded design and preservation organizations impacting the built environment, such as AIASD and SOHO. I also want to share sustainability knowledge with the professionals in Gensler’s 120 person local office. – Steven Shinn, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, Studio Director & Senior Associate with Gensler.

I have been involved with the chapter for almost six years. The last year I have served as the Board Treasurer and previously as the Chair of the Residential Committee. I am passionate about green building, sustainability, and passing on a better world to our children. I have enjoyed the work I have done with the council and look forward to taking that to the next level.
