This inspiring seminar brings together leaders from the CA Building Decarbonization Coalition and Rocky Mountain Institute along with local experts.

Panama Bartholomy, Director, Building Decarbonization Coalition.
Topic: A Roadmap to Decarbonize California’s Buildings.
Panama is the Director of the Building Decarbonization Coalition, a multi-sector forum advocating for and creating solutions for our pollution-intensive building stock. Previously, Panama was the European Director of the Investor Confidence Project where he worked to unlock capital markets for energy efficiency project development. Panama was the Advisor on Energy and Natural Resources to California Assembly Speaker John A. Perez. He has served as Deputy Director of the California Energy Commission’s Efficiency and Renewables Division and advisor for Chairwomen Douglas and Pfannenstiel. He has worked for the California Conservation Corps on vocational environmental education, and ran the Sustainable Schools program for the Division of the State Architect. Panama served on the City of Sacramento Planning Commission and the County of Sacramento Environmental Commission, and is a former board member on the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and past president of the Northern California Chapter of the USGBC. He has worked on climate solutions in over 30-countries, presented at and collaborated on products from the United Nations, the International Energy Agency and the European Commission.

Matt specializes in net-zero energy strategy, performance-based energy efficiency contracts, and the federal energy space. His core competencies lie in building science (including energy auditing and modeling), mechanical engineering, and project management. Matt works on several initiatives at RMI that target aggressive energy efficiency goals, including net-zero energy. Currently, Matt is working on an urban redevelopment project in Pittsburgh that cuts across RMI’s practice areas to deliver a comprehensive buildings, energy supply, and mobility solution to help achieve forward-leaning energy goals. He is also working with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) on several collaborations focused on their National Deep Energy Retrofit program, which achieves deep energy savings using energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs), and net-zero energy. Matt’s past work at RMI includes developing a net-zero energy strategy for the McDonald’s Corporation and delivering integrative design workshops for federal and private sector clients. For the past year, his team has been working to build a compelling business case for net-zero energy at the district scale. A clean energy economy can't move forward without efficient buildings and renewable energy at scale - RMI's latest insight brief (see link below) provides a cost-effective solution path that will help us to make communities that are more livable, healthy, resilient, and sustainable.
Beth Brummitt, President, Brummitt Energy Associates.
Topic: County of San Diego ZNE Portfolio Plan
Beth founded Brummitt Energy Associates in 1998 to focus on high performance buildings, building on her experience as an energy modeler and her passion for sustainable prosperity. She is a graduate of Stanford University and former Chair of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants. Since 2003, Beth has helped shaped the development of the San Diego green building industry—as the founding chair of the San Diego Green Building Council and the founding co-chair of the San Diego Living Building Challenge Collaborative. She is a regular presenter on topics such as Zero Net Energy: Ideas to Reality. She collaborated with SDG&E in 2008 to develop the first Zero Net Energy (ZNE) Commercial Case Study in California. As the firm’s portfolio of work continues to expand, in 2017 she led the development of the ZNE Portfolio Plan for 8,000,000 SF owned and managed by the County of San Diego.
