Scoping Energy Efficiency for Existing Buildings

This session will explore a process for evaluating existing building systems and energy trends, identifying low and no-cost strategies. We will also review how to develop plans for achieving integrated energy goals including increased efficiency, demand response, and considering renewable energy options.

We will provide framework for prioritizing energy efficiency and demand response strategies for maximizing energy conservation while considering solar energy, energy storage, and other new technologies. 

Seminar Highlights:

- Understand the holistic relationship between reduced energy waste, increased energy efficiency, demand response, and renewable energy

- Develop refined skills for energy planning on projects

- Explore rebates and financing programs available to fund efficiency strategies

Daniele Horton, LEED FELLOW, CEM, MS, AIA, CalBRE 
Founder and President of Verdani Partners 

Daniele Horton brings over 20 years of experience in corporate sustainability, real estate and project management. Daniele’s expertise, dedication and passion are central to her leadership of the company. Daniele is an architect, LEED Fellow and a Certified Energy Manager. She is currently leading the Verdani team in sustainability efforts for 11 real estate firms with over 550 million square feet of diversified real estate across 4,250 properties representing over $275 Billion in AUM. Most of Verdani’s clients have ranked among the top ten on GRESB which reflects the success of their sustainability programs. As the head of sustainability for Thomas Properties Group for almost a decade, Daniele led the LEED certification of TPG’s nationwide portfolio of office buildings in house and was ranked as the highest environmental performer on GRESB in the Americas in the Office category (2011, 2012 & 2013). With over 60 speaking engagements under her belt since 2008, and industry leadership with 14 organizations, Daniele was named one of the “Top 10 Most Powerful Women in Sustainability” in 2014.   

Chris Wei, MS, PE, CEM, LEED AP O+M
Director of Engineering of Verdani Partners

Chris Wei has nearly 10 years of professional experience as an energy engineer. As the director of Verdani’s Engineering and Technical Services department, Chris provides leadership on energy audits, site assessments, benchmarking, and LEED documentation. He works daily with property teams on developing effective strategies to benchmark their data, comply with local benchmarking laws, identify energy conservation opportunities, and implement building optimization projects. Chris has also taught numerous classes, seminars, and training sessions related to ENERGY STAR benchmarking and how to conduct technical site assessments. Chris has a master’s degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Hong Kong. With a background in Mechanical Engineering, he has a deep passion for research and innovation and hopes to make buildings across the world more energy efficient.
