April 15, 2021 - The San Diego Green Building Council (SDGBC) is proud to announce the launch of the Electric Home Cooktop Program, the only induction cooktop loaner program in the San Diego region!
The Electric Home Cooktop Program is designed to allow anyone who is interested in experiencing cooking with an induction cooktop to do so, regardless of their experience level. With the program, San Diego residents can check out a Duxtop 9100mc induction cooktop for 3 weeks, free of charge, to gain first hand experience of the benefits associated with cooking with induction cooktops.
Induction cooking is not only the most advanced cooking technology currently available, it can provide many benefits not associated with any other type of cooking appliance such as:
- Faster cook times
- Precise temperatures
- Health benefits from reduced air pollutants such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides
- Increased energy efficiency and lower environmental impact
In March of this year, we were pleased to offer 12 induction cooktops to interested participants of the City of Solana Beach’s building electrification workshop supporting their climate action commission's work. As we continue the launch of the Electric Home Cooktop Program throughout the San Diego region, starting in San Diego, Solana Beach and Carlsbad, input from Solana Beach participants will allow us to improve the program and make it a rewarding experience for all.
This program is an exciting piece to SDGBC’s commitment to Building Decarbonization, Health & Wellness, and Equity. We look forward to pairing this program with future education about the benefits of electrification and how it can help our communities thrive in a healthier environment, starting in the heart of the home - the kitchen. We look forward to taking what we learn from this launch into Phase Two of the program, reaching our community members in South & East County San Diego.
The team of professionals and volunteers working to make this program a reality have sought to create an accessible opportunity to test this technology in the comfort of your home. Thank you to the City of Solana Beach, Carlsbad MyGeneration Campaign of the Sierra Club, San Diego 350, Climate Action Campaign and the many interested individuals whose support has made this program possible.
