Course Description:  

This session will provide methods for setting Net Zero targets and will explore strategies to achieving this often-intimidating goal. Key topics include a pathway to Net Zero, identifying efficiency opportunities, steps for successful retrofits, and the role of renewable energy.

Whether working with a single building or entire portfolio, attendees will walk away with an understanding of the business cases for pursuing efficiency and Net Zero, and practical strategies to implement at their own buildings.


 Seminar Highlights:  

  1. Identify recent market trends in Net Zero and greening existing building operations.
  2. Describe how to create Net Zero targets, from a single property to an entire portfolio.
  3. Breakdown the pathway to achieving Net Zero, including setting a baseline, efficiency measures, and renewable energy.

Daniele Horton, LEED Fellow, CEM, MS, AIA, CalBRE

Founder and President of Verdani Partners

Daniele founded Verdani Partners in 2012, bringing over 23 years of experience in sustainability, real estate, project management and architecture to the firm. Daniele is a licensed architect, LEED Fellow and CEM. She is a Harvard graduate with a degree in sustainable development and served previously as the Head of Sustainability for notable real estate firm Thomas Properties Group (TPG). In her current role as the Founder and President for Verdani Partners, Daniele leads project teams providing corporate sustainability and ESG management services for twelve real estate portfolios with over 4,250 properties, 500 Million square feet of diversified real estate representing over $275 Billion in AUM. Most of them have ranked among the top ten on GRESB, which is a reflection of Verdani’s successful sustainability programs.  With over 150 speaking engagements under her belt since 2008, and industry leadership with 14 organizations, Daniele was named one of the “Top 10 Most Powerful Women in Sustainability” in 2014. Daniele is also an adjunct Professor at the University of San Diego where she teaches Sustainable Real Estate at their MSRE program. She recently started a non-profit organization called Verdani Institute for the Built Environment to advance global sustainability adoption in the built environment through research, education, collaboration, and resilience.   

Andrea Stanislav, CEM, EIT

Associate Engineering Manager at Verdani Partners

Andrea is the lead engineer for one of Verdani’s largest diversified portfolios, managing the benchmarking and efficiency efforts for over 280 Million square feet across nearly 1,300 properties. In this role, she works with organization- and asset-level teams to develop effective energy management strategies, comply with local benchmarking ordinances, and identify and implement certification, audit, and efficiency opportunities. As a member of Verdani’s Engineering and Technical Services team, Andrea provides support with building-level energy audits and Energy Star Certifications. She enjoys collaborating with both the Corporate Sustainability and Engineering teams to implement successful ESG programs and exploring rising conversations in resilience and net zero. Andrea holds a BS in Environmental Engineering from The Ohio State University and is an AEE Certified Energy Manager.
