Why do you wish to join the Board of Directors of the San Diego Green Building Council?
Tom Abram
Energy Engineer/Project Developer, EMCOR/Mesa Energy Systems
I am passionate about green buildings and sustainability. I would love to help the SDGBC expand our efforts to expand knowledge around these topics as well as make a tangible difference on policy in our region. I have broad experience around energy and sustainability. While my career has primarily focused on commercial and institutional efforts, I am also passionate about residential topics. I am nearly complete with my efforts to fully electrify and solar power our home and would like to help others in similar endeavors.
Tina Angeles
Architect, The Miller Hull Partnership
As a volunteer w/ SDGBC for a number of years as well as a founding co-chair of the Women in Green committee, I would like to contribute more to the green building community as well as the larger San Diego community. The SDGBC BOD gives me an opportunity to participate in the decision-making process for the groups’ programs, initiatives and general direction. I bring experience and passion for the intersections of health, high performance design and equity to the role. In addition, this would be a platform for my personal growth and developing leadership skills.
Rebecca Baptiste
Manager, Distributed Energy Resources, Center for Sustainable Energy
After being an active volunteer with the San Diego Green Building Council since I moved to San Diego in 2014, I think the best way for me to continue to meaningfully contribute to helping SDGBC achieve its mission and vision would be through continued volunteering on the Board of Directors. My main goals serving on the Board are to increase the community’s awareness of the great work done by SDGBC staff and volunteers, identify and pursue diverse and long-term funding sources for mission-driven projects, and ensure that volunteers continue to be meaningfully engaged in serving SDGBC’s mission.
Daniela Deutsch
Associate Professor, NewSchool of Architecture and Design
I was involved with Green or Energy Efficient Design most of my career. I am also teaching almost all classes on Environmental Systems in the Undergraduate Program at NewSchool, as well as leading (4th Year Level Coordinator) the Integrated Design Studio for 8 years now, which is our most comprehensive class in the UG Program. All the building developed have to be at least Net-Zero Energy. I was also one the first Living Future Ambassadors, starting 2010, at (at the time) the Living Building Challenge Organization, now the Living Future Network. Am still constantly presenting their concepts to all my students, was just for a moment too busy with both my projects plus full time teaching and had to step out. I am devoted to the responsibility as an architect, for the natural and built environment and to the conscious handling of resources, fostering rethinking and establishing these themes in my projects and the architectural curriculum.
Colleen FitzSimons
Sustainability Consultant
Having been a volunteer and Board Member of the San Diego Green Building Council over the last 2 years, I have been able to contribute to and experience the broad impact of SDGBC throughout San Diego County. Environmentalism is my passion and the work of the SDGBC is building the momentum for sustainability within the green building community and taking it even further. I love the dedication that SDGBC’s volunteers and employees bring to this work and it inspires and motivates me to keep up my own efforts within the organization and beyond.
Miranda Gardiner
Vice President, Sustainable Design Leader, HKS, Inc.
My passion for the environment drives me to improve sustainability practices through local engagement and on the global scale. I’ve worked on initiatives everywhere from Southern California to Moldova - including prototype technologies in rural settings and developing strategies for inclusive leadership. I’ve strategically chosen opportunities to learn the factors that support (or hinder) pursuing sustainable strategies, as building a sustainable environment must be commonplace to change our future. We need a greater range of impact, greater range of advocacy and more well-versed practitioners – I’d love to work with SDGBC to support the growth of these factors in our area.
